We have begun offering SolusVM Master Enterprise licenses to Direct Store customers through the cPanel Store as an option for hypervisor users who wish to utilize the virtualization management software. SolusVM licenses are a new option to purchase, but aren’t a required installation or upgrade. If you’re interested in a control panel for a virtualized environment, read on to find out more.
What is SolusVM?
SolusVM is a GUI and API based VPS management system with support for platform virtualization tools such as OpenVZ, Linux KVM, Xen Paravirtualization, and Xen HVM. With SolusVM, users can completely reinstall servers from a variety of media, including templates, ISOs, PXEs, and more. A single sign-on feature to manage multiple VPS containers and the ability to reset or change the root password in the cluster is also featured.
Administrative features of the SolusVM panel allow the ability to add, remove, or edit virtual servers, clients, resellers, change hostnames of VPS containers in the cluster, a direct serial console login, the ability to add or remove IP addresses, and view or edit stats and logs.
With an Enterprise Master license, System Administrators can install SolusVM on their “master” server, and then manage a VPS cluster with servers that can utilize cPanel & WHM.
Technical Requirements and Partitioning
Be advised that SolusVM is not meant to work in conjunction with cPanel & WHM or any other control panel, as this may cause your server to become non-functioning. We recommend using a clean install of CentOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or Scientific Linux.
Xen PV/HVM Host
- 80GB+ (XEN templates & iso’s will be stored in /home/solusvm/xen)
- SWAP 4GB max (Virtual servers won’t use the host swap)
- Logical Volume Group (LVM) remaining space (Logical Volume Group Only, SolusVM will create the logical volumes for the virtual servers inside this group)
The PE Size should be set to 128M, not the Default of 4M; if manually creating the Volume Group, you can use the ‘-s 128M’ flag.
KVM Host
- 80GB+ (KVM templates & ISOs will be stored in /home/solusvm/kvm)
- SWAP 4GB+ (Virtual servers may use host swap if there is a real memory shortage)
- Logical Volume Group (LVM) remaining space (Logical Volume Group Only, SolusVM will create the logical volumes for the virtual servers inside this group)
The Volume Group Name CANNOT be KVM as /dev/kvm/ is a directory created on install.
The PE Size should be set to 128M, not the Default of 4M; if manually creating the Volume Group, you can use the ‘-s 128M’ flag.
OpenVZ Host
- 80GB
- SWAP 2 times RAM (if RAM ⇐2GB otherwise RAM + 2GB is plenty)
- /vz remaining space (templates & virtual servers will be stored here)
